Poker Night

At long last, I finally had a good night of poker. A little more than $50 was won in one game of Mexican Sweat with Baseball Rules. Several rainouts lead to a very large pot in this nickels, dimes, and quarters game.

  • Hey, you could use your winnings to upgrade to a non-Ikea coffee table. (I have the same one in my apartment.)

  • For me, Ikea is to furniture as The Gap is to clothing. My apartment houses the follwing pieces, all from Ikea:

Lack coffee table (2-one is my TV stand)
    Lilliberg sofa
    Lilliberg loveseat
    Dalselv bed
Dalselv bedside table (2-one is for the TV in my room)
    Gorm shelf system
    Jokel floor lamp
    Jokk kitchen table with chairs

The beautiful thing is that all this furniture was just under $1,100 with a few throw pillows, an area rug, a comforter, and bed linens. In fact, my only non-Ikea furniture is the CD tower I've had for years.

The philosophy is simple: Why buy nice furniture when one day, God willing, I'll find a woman who will hate all my stuff and want to get rid of it anyway? So I have disposable furniture.

  • While cheap, Ikea stuff is generally pretty cool. I think it was wise of AJ to get Ikea stuff now, and then get the real stuff once he "settles down." AJ? Settle down? Did I say those words in the same sentence?

  • The whole package coming in at $1100 is indeed impressive, but also noteworthy is that the whole package probably came in at under 110 pounds. It's amazing what you can do with laminated balsa wood, but it's a pain when the central air comes on and blows all your living room furniture into one corner.

  • I don't remember what it weighed, but everything but the bed fit on one of the store's flatbed shopping carts.

  • I like the sweet deck of cards you were playing with.

  • Yes, the 52 Most Dangerous Liberals deck was a birthday present from Torry a few years back. It is still a nice conversation piece during a game. However, some of the names are now less dangerous, e.g. Tom Daschle.
